Julia Trahair was born on Long Island, New York, and studied at Rhode Island School of Design and Corcoran School of Art in the US. She trained in couture design in Toronto before moving to the UK in 1971, and Cornwall in 1973. After a career in dressmaking, she opened a studio in 1994, making block printed textiles. This she kept for fourteen years, then went on to work at home on one-off printed, jewelled and beaded hangings, hand painted silk scarves, and patchwork quilts. This collection of quilts and scarves has been made specifically for the Friends of Quarr.
