Quarr Abbey is situated within 200 beautiful acres of pasture, woodlands, coastline and formal gardens.
The Abbey’s popular tea shop is nestled at the centre of this pretty area within the original Quarr Abbey House walled garden.
Visitors are more than welcome to visit our woodland walk and wildlife hide. Follow the trail, past the old Abbey ruins as it meanders through beautiful woodland. You may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the native red squirrel.
To get a little more ‘up close’ to nature, we have created a hide with viewing area. Quarr Explorers Kits are also available to borrow to really make the most of the trail. Kits contain binoculars, bug pot and activity cards to help get everyone involved.
Always a hit with visitors, our resident pigs are located near to the entrance and have a path that encircles the entire pen, meaning you can get a look at them from every angle. The wildflower meadow has been created to provide a pollen and nectar source for our many bee hives.
The estate also extends into the private ‘enclosure’. This is an area where Monks can enjoy the surroundings and their home. This land is also of national importance due to the vast array of species of flora and fauna that reside here. The estate has several conservation designations to help protect the local environment, these include Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), Scheduled Ancient Monuments (SAM), Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and RAMSAR (a wetland designation).
