Quarr Abbey Steps - Cream

We are always looking for ways to develop and improve Quarr, without disturbing its unique tranquility.

We have various projects taking place and have various initiatives planned for the future:

  • Our tea garden is being improved. We are supported by local organisations, including the Isle of Wight Beekeepers Association, Southern Housing, the Blue Sky Arts program and a group of volunteers who manage our chickens.
  • Our historic buildings are in need of constant maintenance and repairs. We have carried out significant work on the sanctuary tower and other higher points of the church buildings. The guesthouse will be going through some refurbishment and our Monastery Shop continues to grow.

All of these initiatives require time, money and the dedication of a volunteer workforce.

Easter Message 2026

Easter at Quarr is a good season to learn again that
Flowers open after winter months of apparent death,
Birds sing joyfully as they build new nests for their little ones to come,
Lambs gamble and bleat in the meadows.
Even roads reopen (!) giving access to visitors old and new – all welcome!

Will our hearts open, too,
To make peace after conflicts and wars
To forgive after disputes
To foster every human life from its conception to its natural end,
To bring a smile of hope on all faces around?

“Christ is risen from the dead.”
Happy Easter to you all!
